7 Recommended Steps Everyone Should consider Following:
Check to see if your passwords have been exposed:
Change Your Password
Change your passwords immediately for all affected accounts and services you regularly use.
Example of a strong password:
3. Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (also called MFA)
Enable Multi-Factor Authentication wherever possible. This means if someone tries to login to any of your accounts with a stolen password, they must go through at least one more layer of security before gaining access to your account. Without multi-factor authentication, they can simply login with your stolen password.
Start with your most sensitive accounts, like your bank, credit cards, email, social media, tax filing website, and payment apps.
4. Do Not Save Passwords in Internet Browsers
Do NOT save passwords in your Internet browser (for example, Safari, Chrome, Firefox, or Edge). This is highly insecure and makes your passwords easier to steal. See example below.
5. Use a Password Manager
Use a Password Manager like 1Password and Keeper to securely store and manage all your passwords in one place.
Please note: Password Managers may have a cost or an upgrade cost.
6. Learn how to use a Passkey
This is new and more secure than a password. Currently, over 200 websites use this new technology. So, If you have an account with Google, Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Facebook, Linked In, PayPal, Whatsapp, Target or Tik Tok just to name a few, this new security feature is available and highly recommended. For more detailed information about Passkeys and how to use them, please look online for detailed guidance. See Example HERE .
