If you do not have a smart TV to stream videos from your phone or laptop, you can use an HDMI cable by following the steps below.
To Connect your mobile phone to a TV
For Android, check out which charging port your phone has.
There are three types: Micro USB, SlimPort-enabled Micro USB, and USB Type C. You can either check the device manufacturer’s manual that came with the phone or visit the manufacturer’s website.
Different port sizes used to connect phone to TV
For iPhone use a Lightning to VGA Adapter or Lightning Digital AV Adapter
Locate the HDMI port on the TV and grab the HDMI adapter for your phone
Check to see what adapter your TV needs.
Most newer TVs have HDMI ports. If one of the ports has an MHL logo over it, then your TV is MHL enabled. MHL-enabled TVs won’t need an adapter; non-MHL-enabled TVs WILL need one.
Use your TV remote control to switch to the correct port.
If you don't see your screen on the TV, press the INPUT or SOURCE button on your TV and switch to the HDMI (or other) port
To connect your laptop to a TV:
Locate the HDMI port on the laptop and the HDMI port on the TV
If the laptop does not have an HDMI port, then the user can always use an adapter for an HDMI cable that would connect to their laptop
Connect one end of the HDMI cable to the laptop
Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to the TV
Using your TV remote, switch the Input to HDMI and start streaming
